• T.R. Reid •

Join moderator Owen Perkins and a powerhouse panel of Colorado health care thinkers on Tuesday, February 4th to discuss the effect Obamacare has had on residents and their health care and the path ahead for those striving to secure affordable, accessible, quality health care for all Coloradans. The event is free and open to the public and will feature opening presentations from each of the panelists followed by ample opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

The forum will begin by updating Coloradans on the current state of affairs as the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act begins to take hold.  Panelists will then move on to examine creative approaches and existing models for building on the existing foundation to achieve universal health care.

The compelling evening features a panel of experts in their field, offering diverse perspectives and approaches to imaginatively moving Colorado forward in its ongoing pursuit of health care reform.  Confirmed speakers include the following:
  • Senator Irene Aguilar, the chair of the Health and Human Services Committee in the Colorado State Senate and a proponent of The Colorado Health Care Cooperative.  Senator Aguilar is a practicing physician at Clinica Tepeyac and a board member at Denver Health, where she practiced for over 20 years.
  • Lindy Hinman, Chief Operating Officer, Connect for Health Colorado.  Hinman has a long background in health care policy,  both in the private sector and as a member of the White House Office of Manaement and Budget and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Washintong DC.  She is replaicing our previously announced panelist, Patty Fontneau, Executive Director and CEO of Connect for Health Colorado, who we regret is unable to attend due to a family health emergency.

  • T.R. Reid, an author, lecturer, and documentary filmmaker.  Reid is perhaps best known for his book The Healing of America: A Global Quest for Better, Cheaper, and Fairer Health Care and the documentary films Sick Around the World, and U.S. Health Care: The Good News.
  • Nathan Wilkes, President of Health Care for All Colorado.  Wilkes has been an active advocate for universal health care in Colorado for years and is currently a Board Member of the Colorado Health Benefits Exchange, having served on the nine-member board since its inception in 2011.
  • Additional presenters may still be added, and several partner groups will be providing information tables at the forum and a brief overview of their activities.
The forum is sponsored by The Peace and Justice Committee of The Mountain View Friends Meeting House and The DU Law Democrats.
